But guess what, every company that adds new content for free, for the most part, gets money some other way usually through cosmetic microtransactions. There are also plenty of games that have mods on Steam and third party websites. TF2 receives free updates, CS:GO does too. Killing Floor 2 receives free updates, you don't have to pay a dime after your initial purchase. If you want to mention free updates and fan content (mods?), games nowadays still have those. It's not like the idea of extra content existed before consoles adopted the concept of being connected to the internet. never had "expansion packs" in the 90s and early 2000s.
